General Dentistry

service

General Dentistry involves the diagnosis and treatment of general conditions affecting teeth and gums.

Dental exam; treating tooth decay; root canal treatment; tooth restoration; whitening; thorough dental cleaning; Digital Dental X-Ray.

Professional dental examinations are all about prevention – preventing existing problems from getting worse and preventing dental problems from developing in the future. Regular dental examinations make it possible to identify and treat a problem in its earliest stage.

Digital X-rays produce high-quality images of your teeth that can be viewed instantly by you and your dentist on a LCD monitor. Digital X-rays reduce radiation by up to 90% and provide exceptional diagnostic information to ensure that potential problems are caught in their earliest stages. Intraoral photography is another alternative to traditional dental X-rays. With intraoral photography problems such as cavities, fractures and discolorations in teeth are captured through clear and sharp photographic images that are taken with a 35mm or digital camera.

Treating Tooth Decay

If you have been told you need a dental filling, you are not alone: 95-97% people in the world have had at least one cavity (according to the World Health Organization). The treatment for tooth decay largely depends on how complicated the problem is. If the tooth decay is in the early stages, the treatment may involve applying a fluoride varnish to the area to help stop further decay.

If the decay has worn away tooth enamel (the hard outer coating of a tooth) and led to a cavity, the treatment will involve removing the soft decay and replacing the hole in your tooth with a filling. If the nerve in the middle of your tooth is damaged, you may need root canal treatment, which removes the nerve and restores the tooth with a filling or crown.

Restorative dentistry is aimed at helping you repair or replace your natural teeth in order to return your mouth to its full functionality and aesthetic balance. It focuses on patients who have one or more damaged teeth. Here at the Stanislavivska lichnytsia we believe that restorations should be completed with the patient's overall health and well-being in mind. It is necessary not just to look good (aesthetic reasons) but to be healthy too, as teeth are the first part of our body's digestive system. We use advanced dental materials and techniques, so we are confident you will be happy with the result.

Root Canal Teatment.

Root canal treatment is needed when either decay or an injury infects the pulp (the soft centre of the tooth). In the earliest stages of infection you may not feel any pain at all. But when it progresses, you may have a toothache and swelling, or a dental abscess might form. Root canal treatment removes the infection and prevents it from spreading. In our everyday work we use the operating microscope which provides extreme magnification. This makes it possible to identify minute structures, fracture, perforation and broken instruments; to clean and shape narrow canals and not to miss any infected areas of complex root canal system. The infection-free root canal is then sealed with the root filling. By means of microscopic root canal treatment pain can be minimized and excellent long-term results can be achieved.

Whitening

Whitening is among the most popular cosmetic dental procedures because it can greatly improve how your teeth look. The most common type of vital tooth whitening uses gel that is applied directly to the tooth surface.

Tooth whitening can be done in the dentist's office. In-office whitening allows your dentist to use more powerful whitening gel. A special light or laser activates the gel and allows bleaching to happen faster.

In-office whitening usually takes from 1 to 2 hours. You will need from 1 to 3 appointments. The number will depend upon the method used, how severe your stains are and how white you want your teeth to be. Different types of stains respond differently to the treatment. Teeth bleaching products do not damage the teeth and should only be used under the guidance of your dentist.

Thorough Dental Cleaning

It is complete professional dental cleaning conducted. While it is recommended for adults to brush their teeth three times a day and floss once daily, the reality is that most people brush them only twice daily and floss rarely. Even the most hygiene-dedicated patients, who brush and floss regularly, will not ever achieve the same result as that of deep cleaning. For the best dental health and cavity prevention it is important to have your teeth professionally cleaned, polished and treated with fluoride twice a year.

Why fix baby teeth? There are several reasons to fix baby teeth:

  1. Every child’s smile affects their sense of self-esteem and confidence in life
  2. Primary teeth are important because they help guide the proper eruption of permanent teeth
  3. Primary teeth help maintain good nutrition with proper chewing
  4. Primary teeth help with the development of speech
  5. Untreated baby teeth can affect the development of permanent teeth
  6. Primary teeth often save space for permanent teeth
  7. Not treating the teeth can result in the patient’s severe pain and possibly developing an abscess

An abscess “is a collection of pus that has accumulated in a cavity formed within a tissue because of an inflammatory process in response to either an infection process, usually caused by bacteria.” (Wikipedia) An abscess can be very dangerous and lead to swelling and severe pain.

If a cavity develops in your child’s baby tooth the decay will slowly (and sometimes rapidly) get bigger and deeper. If the tooth is really close to falling out, we have the option of just leaving it alone. If it seems to stay quite a while until it normally falls out, we need to do something. Otherwise you would expect ugly teeth, toothaches, infection and more extensive dental work.

Why don't you just pull it out? Well, sometimes that is the best option, but if a back baby tooth is lost too early without follow-up treatment, additional crowding problems, that are often more difficult to correct, will occur. Thus you will usually need additional work like a Space Maintainer. That is one reason why it is often easier to fix a baby tooth than just to remove it.

Prosthetic Dentistry

service

The best teeth are your own natural teeth. But sometimes a tooth is badly damaged or lost. If a tooth is lost, it is important to replace it with an artificial tooth as soon as possible. This will prevent the teeth that are left from drifting out of line and possibly causing jaw problems.

Inlays and onlays are a conservative alternative to full coverage dental crowns. Also known as indirect fillings, inlays and onlays offer a well-fitting, stronger, longer lasting reparative solution to tooth decay or similar damage. Whereas dental fillings are moulded to place within a patient mouth during a dental visit, inlays and onlays are fabricated indirectly in a dental lab before being fitted and bonded to the damaged tooth by your dentist. These restorations are beneficial from both an esthetic and functional point of view. The superior fit and durable material make inlays and onlays a stable choice that can actually strengthen a damaged tooth.

Adhesive bridges is a bridge which consists of a dummy tooth attached to a titanium wing. This wing is glued onto an adjacent tooth. Only minimal preparation of the adjacent tooth is required. This is much healthier for the supporting tooth than removing a large amount of enamel and dentine in order to make a retaining crown. Adhesive bridges are also less expensive than crown retained bridges.

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth - to cover the tooth, to restore its shape, size and strength and to improve its appearance. The crowns, when cemented into place, fully encase the entire visible portion of the tooth that lies at and above the gum line. Porcelain-fused-to-metal dental crown can be color matched to your adjacent teeth (unlike the metallic crown).

Porcelain-fused-to-Zirconia and Full Zirconia. A zirconia crown is a popular type of all-ceramic crowns that is worn to improve the appearance of a tooth which has become stained or disfigured over the years. They are durable, easy to wear and long lasting. Plus zirconia crowns have a translucent appearance which means that they are indistinguishable from your own teeth. It is hard to spot a zirconia crown amongst natural teeth.

An adhesive bridge, also called a “fixed bridge” or a “fixed dental prosthesis,” is the dental restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth. It extends across the area that has no teeth and is typically made up of an artificial tooth fused between 2 crowns

Denture are artificial replacement for your natural teeth and gums. If an accident, a disease or poor oral health care has left you with only a few healthy teeth or none at all, your dentist or prosthodontist can suggest dentures to replace your missing teeth.

Implants are the option to many patients who choose to replace a single tooth, several teeth or to support a full set of dentures. Implants are posts that are surgically placed in the upper or lower jaw, where they function as a sturdy anchor for replaced teeth. They are made of titanium (a strong, lightweight metal) and other materials that are accepted by a human body. Most patients find that an implant is secure and stable - a good replacement for their own tooth.

We will offer any information we have regarding the options that may work better for you.

Orthodontic Dentistry

service

People of any age can benefit from orthodontic treatment. Teeth that are crooked, crowded or those sticking out affect the way your teeth look and work. Orthodontic treatment improves not only the look of your smile but also your health. Straight teeth are easier to clean and less likely to get tooth decay or injured. If you are not happy with the way your teeth look or work, orthodontic treatment may help.

The position of your teeth and jaws has an effect on your bite. Your bite is how your top and bottom teeth come together. When your top and bottom teeth do not fit together properly, this is called a malocclusion or a bad bite. Problems like missing, crooked, crowded or protruding teeth can contribute to a bad bite.

A bad bite can make it hard to chew some food and can cause some teeth to wear down. It can also cause muscle tension and pain. Teeth that stick out are more easily chipped or broken. Crowded and crooked teeth are harder to clean and may be more likely to get cavities and gum diseases. Fixing a bad bite improves your smile and health.
